Current and Unconfirmed Theories[]
- Pierce's institute is one of the shadow organizations that has been experimenting on people with supernatural abilities. Doggett was not sent to determine what was occurring at Rowan Base but rather to examine the effectiveness of Johansson and Oatman's work with the Mucous Man, either with or without the knowledge that the institute's scientists created it.
- Emily Oatman is actually a scapegoat. Apparently, Sneberg's doctor was a man named Salvatore Columbino and was male. This either is a coverup, or Oatman was forced to take the fall for someone else's actions.
- There was a third scientist on the Mucous Man team. When describing her work with Johansson to Fulton, Dr. Oatman says, "We... I assisted," implying that she had a partner whose existence she wants to keep from Fulton and Dexler. This person may also be Pierce's mysterious Chief Researcher.
- Alternatively, Rasmus Johansson may be the Chief Researcher.
