Mudboy is one of the orphans taken in to work in the Garden. He arrives a few years after Page and Violet. He is a character in Eternal City.

History[]

Mudboy is brought to the Garden by Bezoar to help with tending and harvesting the produce. He later either escapes with Cinder, Page, Violet, and your character, or stays behind with the Caretakers. Alongside your group, he scratches out a living in the City for some time, before being invited to join the Cagers.

Mudboy is deaf (according to Bezoar, he doesn't have a tongue). For whatever reason, Mudboy never learned sign language, and communicates instead with animalistic growls, howls, and other noises. Although the Night-Mother is disgusted that Bezoar and the Caretakers didn't teach Mudboy to communicate, it is unclear if their failure stemmed from ignorance of his disability or from simple cruelty.

Alongside your group, he scratches out a living in the City for some time, before being invited to join the Cagers. Once his apprenticeship begins, he starts to learn the Silent Speech to communicate with his hands.

Appearance[]

Mudboy has pale skin, dark brown hair ratted into dreadlocks, and blue eyes. When you first meet him, the right side of his face is badly scarred, as is his right shoulder and bicep.. However, his scar later goes away with treatment by the Cagers.

As a young child, he wears a long dirty-white tunic riddled with holes and a double-layer necklace. As a teenager, he wears a dark blue shawl over both shoulders, trousers, and a belt with several layers of fabric and rope. He is also shirtless.

Relationships[]

Violet[]

Violet and Mudboy seem to get along. She is very protective of him, and stands up to Page when he is critical or insulting toward Mudboy. Although Mudboy doesn't speak, he seems to be fond of Violet, and will often cling to her and follow her around.

Page[]

Page dislikes Mudboy, likely due to conflicts in their personality. Where Page is quiet and intelligent, Mudboy is very physical and can't speak. Page occasionally criticizes and insults Mudboy for his perceived unintelligence. As Mudboy doesn't speak, it is difficult to know if he returns Page's dislike.

Your Character[]

It is up to your choices if he escapes from the garden or stays behind with the Caretakers. If you keep calling out to him or run back to get him, he will escape along with you.

Trivia[]

  • You are able to find out his real name if you spend time with Violet. You can then talk to him about it or act as if you don't know it.
  • If he stays behind in Episode 3, the Night-Mother will still say that two (if Page leaves for the Locksmen) or three (if Page joins the Cagers) out of five children is a good result if they are committed. You correct that you were four to start with. This hints at her having inside knowledge about the recent events in the Garden.
    • If you leave him behind in the Garden, there is an error if you choose to gather your peers in a later episode. He will shortly show up in the animation even though he cannot be present.
