Caitlyn Marts is a character in The X Files and a close friend of Jessica Dexler.
History[]
Caitlyn attended community college, where she was in the same Intro to Criminal Justice course as Jessica Dexler. The two bonded over their mutual desire to join the FBI and moved in together for some time. During their time in the academy, they got separate apartments but remained in touch. They graduated together in the top ten percent of their class and both began working for the Bureau, although Caitlyn took a desk job doing records maintenance.
Appearance[]
As a college student, she sported short braids. After being hired at the Bureau, she began wearing longer box braids pulled back into a high ponytail. Her normal work outfit is a blue-gray suit, a light blue button down, a gold necklace with a heart-shaped pendant, and thick, gold hoop earrings.
Personality[]
Caitlyn is loyal but no-nonsense, hearing out Jess's stories about the X Files and their mysterious perpetrators while not really believing her stories. Although she questions if it's worth it for Jess to work her cases at the risk of her emotional and physical health, she is ultimately supportive. Her loyalty is further proven when she agrees, albeit reluctantly, to spy for Jess. She is also practical and results-oriented, as evidence when she encourages Jess to manipulate Fulton's relationship with Greg Pierce to benefit her own career.
She finds her job in records maintenance boring, but also appreciates that it is "by the book and...stress free." She hopes to move up to a position in counterterror analysis.

Relationships[]
Jessica Dexler[]
Jess and Caitlyn began as study buddies in Intro to Criminal Justice, but ended up becoming close friends. They remain in touch after graduating from the academy, often getting beers together. Caitlyn frequently offers Jess advice on problems ranging from the emotional toll of her cases to issues in her partnership with Fulton.
Toward the end of the season, Jess has the option to ask Caitlyn to use her position to spy on a variety of powerful individuals. Although Caitlyn will agree to collect information for Jess, it puts a strain on their friendship. If Jess and Fulton kiss in the final episode, Jess will notice that Caitlyn may have seen them and leave to check on her, but Caitlyn will claim she didn't see anything.
